Aeo | The Robot is made to Patrol and Sanitise Medical Facilities.

Image
aeo, a dual-armed robot designed for a variety of service tasks. The new robot combines mobility with the functionality to open doors, pick up objects, and ride elevators.  Watch on YouTube aeo's dual arms have seven degrees of freedom, and each can lift up to 3.6 kg. The robot can perform tasks such as delivery or disinfection with one arm, while the other arm is free for mobility tasks such as operating elevators and opening doors. aeo’s base is powered by two independent drive wheels combined with advanced human-aware navigation algorithms. aeo’s base is fully developed internally by Aeolus, including human-aware navigation and whole-body control algorithms. aeo’s vision algorithms provide a wide range of capabilities, from determining the posture and position of eldercare residents for safety to detecting open windows or misplaced backpacks for se...

LUCAS 3 | The First Robot Paramedic Does CPR in an Ambulance.

Image
The LUCAS 3 device is a mechanical machine that can deliver CPR and uses Bluetooth to configure the compression rate, depth and alerts and can also collect data which can be reviewed and shared with other clinicians. The device is a mechanical system which can deliver high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) chest compressions consistently from the moment crews arrive on scene and throughout a patient's journey to hospital without interruption.  Watch on YouTube CPR is essential to maintaining blood and oxygen flow around the body while a person is unconscious and not breathing. LUCAS devices are also used for resuscitation in hospital emergency departments and to support patients in cardiac arrest in intensive care units, as well for patients undergoing life-saving coronary balloon angioplasty and stenting procedures to widen narrowed arteries. The system uses wireless Bluetooth connectivity, allowing it to configure the compression rate, depth and alerts specific to an or...

HRP-5P | The Japanese robot worker is capable of hanging drywall.

Image
Japan’s AIST, has developed a humanoid robot that can carry out simple construction tasks, like installing drywall. The HRP-5P robot steps up to a piece of drywall, uses hooks to maneuver it into its rotating hands, and nails it into the wall.  Watch on YouTube AIST imagines the HRP-5P being used on construction sites in response to Japan’s aging population and labor shortages. The research institute is aiming for autonomous replacement of labor at assembly sites for large structures, such as buildings, houses, aircrafts, and ships. This development makes true a couple of predictions that have been years in the making. According to a 2013 Oxford University study that quantifies the likelihood of job automation, it actually places the extremely specific job of ‘Drywall Installer’ at a 79 percent chance of being replaced by robots. The construction industry has long been wary of outsourcing labor to robots, and there’s already quite a few (non-humanoid) robots that can carry out task...

SlothBot | The World's First Robotic Sloth That Will Survey Threatened Species.

Image
SlothBot, a slow-moving and energy-efficient robot that can linger in the trees to monitor animals, plants, and the environment below, will be tested near the Garden’s popular Canopy Walk. Built by robotics engineers at the Georgia Institute of Technology to take advantage of the low-energy lifestyle of real sloths, SlothBot demonstrates how being slow can be ideal for certain applications. Powered by solar panels and using innovative power management technology, SlothBot moves along a cable strung between two large trees as it monitors temperature, weather, carbon dioxide levels, and other information in the Garden’s 30-acre midtown Atlanta forest.  Watch on YouTube About three feet long, SlothBot’s whimsical 3D-printed shell helps protect its motors, gearing, batteries, and sensing equipment from the weather. The robot is programmed to move only when necessary, and will locate sunlight when its batteries need recharging. At the Atlanta Botanical Garden, SlothBot will operate on a...

Introducing Erica, the first fully autonomous artificially intelligent actor in Hollywood.

Image
The humanoid robot can recognise your laughter, decide whether to laugh back, and then decide whether to giggle or chuckle in response. clever or spooky?  Erica is an advanced android designed as a research platform to study human-robot interaction. It understands natural language, has a synthesized human-like voice, and can display a variety of facial expressions.  Watch on YouTube Erica will soon be the first artificially intelligent actor to take on the lead role in a film. She will star in the forthcoming sci-fi movie b, the $70 million story of a scientist who has come up with a program to "perfect" human DNA (a la eugenics), which glitches and becomes dangerous. So the scientist must help Erica, the AI organism that he's created, escape the lab. Erica has the ability to recognise when someone is laug...
